For the second year consecutively, Australian sport fans in particular combat sports fans needs to make a choice Boxing or UFC?

On October 6th, the same day as the NRL Grand Final which will see the Canberra Raiders taking on the …. with kick off at 8pm, it’s during the day that fight fans once again have to make a choice boxing or UFC?

UFC puts on the great show of the middleweight championship fight between Australian champ Robert Whittaker taking on Kiwi challenger Israel Adesanya, in an Anzac Aus v Nz battle. The fight will be held at the Marvel Stadium, Melbourne with Mainevent broadcasting the event from 1pm Aesdt.

The same day boxing has the IBF and IBO middleweight titles being contested by one of the best boxers in the world Gennady Golovkin taking on Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant titles. With the fight on Mainevent broadcast from 12pm aesdt.

So it’s Golovkin v Whittaker competing for the Aussie fans dollar on Oct 6. As I said before it’s not the first time it’s happened.

On June 10 last year, Aussie fans had the same choice to make when Robert Whittaker took on Cuban Yoel Romero at UFC 225 with returning WWE wrestler CM Punk on the undercard and then WBO Welterweight champ Jeff Horn in his biggest defence of his career against Terence Crawford, with both fights being broadcast on Mainevent television at virtually the same time.

Although this not an Aussie boxer v an Aussie UFC fighter, the situation is virtually identical with the Aussie fan making the choice of who they want to see, Golovkin or Whittaker. Whomever they choice atleast the day will be capped off with the NRL Grand Final. It doesn’t get much better than this for the Australian sports fans
