45 year old former heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs(60-6-1 53kos) announced via Instagram that he’ll be fighting 43 old Fres “The Big O” Oquendo(37-8 24kos) June 3rd, 2017 for the WBA “World” or “Regular” title.

Venue and network to be announced.

Briggs fought just once in 2016 when he stopped Emilio Zarate(20-19-3 11kos) via first round knockout on the undercard of David Haye vs Arnold Gjergjaj. Briggs had hoped fighting on card would secure him a showdown with Haye. It did not.

Oquendo has not fought since July of 2014 when he lost a somewhat controversial majority decision to former WBA champion Ruslan “White Tyson” Chagaev(34-3-1 21kos)

Via fan opinions many feel that neither Briggs or Oquendo deserve a title shot due to lack of competition or in this case zero bouts from Oquendo in nearly 3 years. Yet Oquendo has been owed a title fight from the WBA for quite some time.
