It seems that the devastating bushfires on Northern New South Wales and Southern Eastern Queensland have claimed thier latest victim, the Gold Coast boxing fan.

Due to the smoke pollution that currently plagues both states, the fight between three-time world boxing champion Anthony Mundine and ten-time kickboxing world champion John Wayne Parr, scheduled to happen this Saturday at the CBUS Stadium in Robina on the Gold Coast, has been relocated to Brisbane.

The fight will now take place at the Brisbane Entertainment and Convention Centre, moving the fight from an outdoor stadium to an indoor centre. Organisers say the move is for health and safety reasons. The fight date will not change, still on November 30.

“NEW VENUE‼️ SAME DATE / SAME TIME!” DDP Sports Management – the promoters of the event – wrote on social media.

“We are moving the event to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, South Bank.

“With the threat of further smoke pollution down the Gold Coast, a decision was made considering the health and well being for both fighters and spectators!

“All tickets remain valid and can he used at the Brisbane Convention Centre..

“For further information please contact #Ticketek!
“Most importantly, WE HAVE A FIGHT.”

The Entertainment Centre is no stranger to big fight attractions, it has held several UFC fight nights and two Jeff Horn bouts.

Noting that the Entertainment Centre only holds 13500 people where the CBUS Stadium holds exactly double that at 27000, this maybe a tactical move to cover poor ticket sales.

Mundine has come out and said that he’ll retire (again) if he loses to Parr, as he has only had one victory in his last four bouts (his knockout victory over Tommy Browne in 2018) retirement should of been  permanent fixture after his 96 second knockout loss to Jeff Horn.

Parr has said that he wants to leave a legacy with the Mundine fight and win/lose or draw and once Australian Middleweight champ will retire this Saturday after the bout.

Mundine commented on his upcoming fight.

For me – from a fighter’s perspective – my feet are better, I’m faster, I’m more accurate, my skill and my general ring awareness,” Mundine told Sporting News when asked what sets him apart from Parr.

He’s straight forward – typical.
“For me, he’s like Danny Green. He’s robotic. You know what he’s going to do and he’s not going to change much.

“He’s going forward to seek and destroy, basically.

“But he can’t hit what he can’t see. If he thinks he’s just going to come in and throw punches, it’s going to be happy days.

“He’s gonna get the shock of his life.”

“I didn’t want to have that as my legacy.

“I would’ve been content with leaving and going out with Horn, but the way it ended and the way I lost, I’m too competitive to leave my legacy on that note.

“It will be a great chance to end his legacy and put mine right, too.”

Despite his knockout defeat to Horn, Mundine says Parr is in for a shock if he thinks he’s past his use-by date.

“To me he’s acting a bit too confident – like he really thinks he’s going to beat me.
“He don’t know who I am. He thinks I’m past it.

“I’m going to prove it to him. I’m gonna show him that he shouldn’t underestimate someone like me.

“Especially someone with my calibre of boxing.”

I’ll guess we will find out this Saturday.
