Aussie fighter George Kambosos Jr (17-0) 10KOs, will make his Madison Square Garden debut this weekend on the undercard to the Terence Crawford (WBO Welterweight) and Richard Coomey (IBF Lightweight) World title fights.

Kambosos Jr will take on former IBF Lightweight champ Mickey Bey (23-2-1) 11KOs. Kambosos Jr will be using his biggest test on his career to grab the attention of the current champ Coomey.

Kambosos Jr is currently ranked third with the IBF in the lightweight division and promoter Bob Arum, who is promoting the Crawford/Coomey event already is interested in giving Kambosos Jr a shot at WBO, WBA and WBC (franchise) Lightweight champ Vasyl Lomachenko.

Bey won the IBF title back in 2014 and held it for two years until 2016. After inactivity of two years, Bey returned in 2018 to earn a first round TKO victory over Luis Humberto Valdivia. But with another years plus of inactivity, this may well work against Bey.

Kambosos Jr’s last fight was a sixth round TKO victory over Richard Pena. Given that Kambosos Jr is in his third fight for the year and is more than a decade younger than the 37 year old Bey at 26, on paper it should be an easy win for Kambosos Jr. But this is boxing.

If Kambosos Jr can make s statement in this fight with a dominant performance, it will cement his place for a world title fight.

The fight will be at Madison Square Garden thus Saturday with ESPN broadcasting the event.
