Australian fighter, George Kambosos Jr 19-0 (10)Kos, is now going to be a mutli-millionaire with Triller (a new streaming service) placed a 6.1 million dollar bid to acquire the promotional rights to the fight between Kambosos Jr and Undisputed Lightweight champ Teofimo Lopez (16-0)12Kos.

Lopez was initially offered his guaranteed payment of over one million dollars by his promoter Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank to potentially hold the fight in Australia. Lopez refused the offer that brought the fight to a purse bid. Reports indicate that Top Rank increased the offer to 2.3 million with Eddie Hearn’s matchroom bringing in a bid of 3.2 million. But to the surprise of many Triller who brought us the Tyson v Jones fight card placed a bid of 6.1 million. Rumours are circulating that the fight maybe on the same card as Tyson v Holyfield 3.

The split of the purse is 65-35 in favour of Lopez. Therefore Kambosos Jr will receive around 2.1 million dollars for the fight. This will allow Kambosos to join the millionaires club of Australia boxing with such names of Jeff Horn, Anthony Mundine, Danny Green and Tim Tszyu.

Adding to the huge payday, this is the biggest fight for a born and bred Australian fighter ever. Last year Jason Moloney challenged Bantamweight champ Naoya Inoue for his IBF/ WBA (Super) and Ring Title championships, but this fight for Kambosos Jr he is going after five belts. Lopez’s WBC (Franchise), WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and Ring Lightweight Titles are the prize for the winner.

Unfortunately for Australian boxing, no fighter has ever won a major title at lightweight, there has been a couple of challengers, Jeff Fenech in 1996 for the IBF Title and Michael Katsidis for the WBC/WBO in 2010, but both were defeated. If Kambosos wins, it will be the biggest victory in the history of Australian boxing.

No details of where or when the fight will happen have been released but for now it’s time to prepare for Kambosos Jr.
