Olijide William Olatunji “KSI” 1 (0 KOs)-0-0 defeats Logan Paul 0-1 (0 KOs)-0 in a 6 round split decision win in a fight where both were making their professional debuts at the Staples Centre Los Angles, broadcasted on DAZN and Sky Box Office in the UK.

Right, so I’m writing for KSI Logan Paul as a post- fight instead of Saunders, and I hate myself a little bit for it. However, judging from what I’ve seen online this does seem to have been the better fight to watch for what it’s worth.

I’ll be honest though, when I woke up this morning and saw the reaction to this being “a great brawl” I was somehow expecting something a bit more. It maybe had something to do with the fact that up until the end of round four I was watching it on mute, instead sitting there with a cafetière full of coffee, and some relaxing music, I’m that cool I know. But mainly because I really cant stand True Geordie and that other YouTube guy as boxing commentators with the standard phrases such as “JJ IS COMING FORWARD, HE’S BEING AGGRESSIVE”, and to be fair once I did turn the commentary on in round five it wasn’t a bad enough scrap, as I realised Adam Smith being on the mic as well.

Starting from the top, I had KSI winning by at least a point, probably three really, nothing happened in the 6th, KSI was missing but Logan wasn’t doing anything himself, and that really was the story of the fight. KSI was doing his best Derek Chisora impression of coming forward, throwing body jabs, and throwing a slapping right hand over the top once he had Logan backed up, and Logan… well… he was getting out of the way, and that’s about it.

He looked like a guy who was really worried about gassing out, and if it’s your first professional fight, and it’s six three minute rounds, I cant really blame him, but I also couldn’t really give him any of the first three rounds, with KSI being basically willing to look stupid to land something even though he really didn’t land much.

The pivotal point was that 4th round when Logan landed that uppercut, dropping KSI and I did think Jack Rees did a great job, both in counting the knockdown with the points deduction, but also making the rules clear to both novices, and that fact that post the knockdown Logan didn’t really do anything to put the pressure on really tells you how fatigued he was in there, as well as all the wild KSI shots missing and going unpunished throughout the fight.

To me it wasn’t quite as good of a fight as people were saying, and I don’t think there’s really much of a reason to have a trilogy with the two, but you never know. If the fans want to see it again it’ll happen, but instinctively if there is going to be another YouTube fight, I think we’ll have another personality in the mix first.

That’s about it really, a relatively entertaining fight between two novices. I’m sure next week it’ll be back to good old business as usual in boxing, with a champion taking on a number 18 ranked fighter in the weight below in a voluntary defence.

Ahh boxing, what a sport.
