This weekend’s female boxing starts on Saturday night in the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland, USA with local lady Jessica ‘CasKILLA’ McCaskill 6(3)-2-0 defending her WBC World Female Super lightweight title against Anahi Esther Sanchez 19(11)-3(1)-0 who brings the WBA World Female Super lightweight title to the fight.
This fight is a very difficult fight to call with both women beating some very impressive opponents in their careers; both have fought and lost to Katie Taylor by unanimous decision. Both these fighters have roughly won 50% of their wins by ko. On paper I would say Sanchez would win this fight ever so slightly but having seen their weigh in, my opinion has changed to McCaskill. Her demeanour and shape are telling signs she wants this badly. Sanchez at times looked like she did not want to be here.
One other note I can say about this is Eddie Hearn and Match room deserve a lot of credit for this fight, and many other high profile Female world title fights. The fighters themselves have raised the profile of female boxing quite considerably, but having the backing of a world recognised promoter has helped raising the awareness of female boxing even further. As well as promoting this fight, Hearn is also promoter for the undefeated World champion Katie Taylor. Hearn would often put female fights on the under card to major male fights most notably Anthony Joshua’s undercards. But Hear has taken small steps, introducing fights in this way; And Taylor has co-headlined a bill in Madison Square gardens. Hearn and Match room, are slowly moving female boxing away from minor sports halls to the big arenas, eg Madison square garden’s NY and Wembley arena London, there is a lot still to do, but other promoters are now following this trend and this can only be good news for Female boxing.
This fight is promoted by Match room Boxing, Eddie Hearn and televised by SKY-UK and Canal Space-Latin America.
The second fight is in Poland where locale lady Ewa Brodnicka 16(2)-0-0 defends her WBO World Female Super Featherweight title against Mexico’s Janeth Perez 24(6)-4-2. This fight is promoted by Tymex Boxing promotions and televised by Polsat Sport HD.
The Third is in Mexico Where locale lady Kenia Enriquez 21(9)-1-0 is defending her interim WBC World Female Light Flyweight title against Venezuela’s Leiryn Flores 16(13)-1(1)-1. This fight is promoted by Promociones Zanfer and televised by Mexico Azteca.
