George ‘Saint George’ Groves 27(20)-3(2)-0 comes into this fight in high spirits after successfully defending his title in the previous round of the World Boxing Super Series against Jamie Cox at the Wembley arena, London . Groves’ participation in the tournament came as complete shock to me as he had just won his first world title at the fourth attempt and here he was entering a winner takes all tournament against the best in the division. I don’t think he should have entered the tournament but he must either be looking a big pay day or is confident he can win it.
Chris Eubank Jr 26(20)-1-0 will be making his third defence of his IBO World title, but as the IBO is not recognised as one of the big four boxing organisations, his inclusion in this tournament makes perfect sense as he had nothing to lose. He is perfectly capable of winning this fight and the tournament, so to miss an opportunity to walk away with another two world titles to add to his own was too great to miss out on.
As I have already placed my cards on the table I will explain why I believe Eubank will win this bout. No disrespect to Groves but the guy is like a machine, efficient and gives 100% from start to finish, but like all machines he has his limitations. Groves’ ability to adapt to me is not his strong point and he can be a bit one dimensional, I know he will give Eubank a proper work out. But Eubank like all artist genius, he can be a bit eccentric, he tries to portray a calm demeanour, but at times he can be reckless leading to his only defeat. But like any one creative, he can create an opportunity to unleash his power. He has the ability to raise his game and fight above his ability, while Groves is stuck giving 100%, Eubank can up his level and give 110% at times, although he cannot keep his concentration levels up to maintain this level.
On the night it depends what Chris Eubank Jr turns up, if he is on his game he will win, if he loses focus, Groves will make him pay. To me the fight will be very even in the first round or two with Eubank trying to spot a weakness in Groves defence, Groves will battle hard but Eubank will be to strong and fast in the middle rounds, with Groves maintaining his work rate into the later stages of the fight and finishing strong, I predict a Unanimous Decision in favour of Eubank.
