Former IBO World Light-Heavyweight champ Blake Caparello (30-3-1), will head to England in November for the opportunity to fight for a WBA world title shot.

Caperllo now 33, is no stranger to world title fights. In 2013 he earned his IBO world title against Allen Green and in 2014 had an opportunity at the WBO champ Sergey Kovalev.

Since the 2014 KO loss to Kovalev, Caparello’s career has somewhat stalled as he has not had another title shot since. But in November that could all change.

Caparello will head to Manchester England, to fight undefeated British fighter Joshua Buatsi (12-0) in a WBA Light-Heavyweight title eliminator. The prize for the winner will be a title shot a current champ Dmitry Bivol (16-0).

Bivol has already derailed one Aussie’s career in the past, he fought Trent Broadhurst in 2017 and knocked him out with a simple right cross to the temple in round one of thier title fight. Since the fight Broadhurst suffered another KO loss to Caparello himself and only manage to secure wins against opponents with more losses then wins on thier records. It’s Australia’s hope that Caparello can avenge Broadhurst’s loss while reigniting his own career, but he faces one of the best prospects from the UK and this will probably be his hardest fight to date.

Buatsi is currently the WBA Light-Heavyweight International champ and ranked third with the organisation, while Caparello is the current WBA Light-Heavyweight Oceania champ and ranked ninth with the organisation.

If Caparello can defeat Buatsi he will be able to gain a title shot at the very same belt that Danny Green (former WBA Light-Heavy and IBO Cruiserweight world champ) won back in 2007. Caparello would be only the third man in Aussie boxing history to win a major (WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO) title at the light-heavy division, joining Green and former 2x WBC Light-Heavyweight Jeff ‘The Hitman’ Hardy.

The fight is scheduled for November 3rd and an official announcement is expected to be made soon.
