The bout between IBF Super-flyweight champ Jerwin Ancajas and challenger Jonathan Jarvier Rodridguez has been cancelled as Rodridguez didn’t get his visa in order in time to gain entry into the USA for the fight.

The fight was to be on the undercard of the WBC Super-featherweight title fight between Miguel Berchelt (champ) 36-1, and Jason Sosa (challenger) 23-3-4. The card also features the international debut of former Australian Super-Welterweight champ Daniel Lewis 4-0, taking on Texan Alexis Gaytan 6-4.

Chief of co-promoter MP Promotions, Sean Gibbons, said Friday Rodriguez’s failure to obtain his visa prevented him from getting a medical license in the State of California.

Gibbions said in an interview with sports inquirer.net that this was through no fault of Rodridguez as the issue only came up just two days before the world championship fight at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

“The issue was being dealt with immigration lawyers,” Gibbons told the Inquirer. “Things happen.’

There is no word if the fight is to be rescheduled as yet. Ancajas has stated to Fillpiono press that in 2020 he wants a unification bout with the other Super-flyweight world champions. With Australian Andrew Moloney competing for a interim WBA world title in under two weeks, a victory could entice a huge unification bout between the pair. It had been long rumoured that Ancajas is interested in fighting the young Australian fighter who is ranked 6th with the IBF for the Super-flyweight division.

Moloney takes on Elton Dharry for the interim WBA Super-flyweight world title on the Paul Gallen v Barry Hall undercard on November 15.
